January 8, 2016 Dear Friends, We hope that 2015 was both a good and prosperous year for you. The cattle business certainly had its ups and downs this year. We had a great start to the year, but it dropped off during the home stretch. The stock market took recently took a toll on cattle prices We had the lowest national cow herd since 1952, moderate grain prices and a shortage of competing proteins. Mark and I anticipate a good feeder calf market this year, but it may not reach the heights of last year. We are starting to see the cow herd slowly build as more heifers are being retained nationwide. The complete schedule of this year’s sales are on the reverse side, however here are some highlights: PREMIUM FEEDER CALF SALES We have six premium feeder calf sales scheduled. These are held in conjunction with a regular feeder calf sale. To qualify for the premium sale, calves must be double vaccinated with the second round being a modified live product. Calves should also be wormed, vaccinated for blackleg and weaned a minimum of 45 days. You may use any brand of vaccine that meet these requirements. HOLSTEIN STEER SALES For the convenience of our customers, we have a Holstein steer sale scheduled each month. For the next few months we will be participating in a pilot project with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. TDA will be applying Ultra High Frequency EID tags in all Holstein steers at these sales. Therefore, unless you need to have your calves tagged before you leave your state, there is no need to tag them ahead of time. Also, please try to arrive at the barn by 5:00 pm This allows us enough time to start the sale on time at 8:00 pm. STOCK COW AND REPLACEMENT HEIFER SALES Two stock cow sales and two stock cow/replacement heifer sales are scheduled with one of each in the spring and again in the fall. We have seen some real quality females in those sales for the past couple of years. CUSTOMER APPRECIATION DAY We will be celebrating our 53rd Anniversary during our Customer Appreciation Day on April 22. As in years past, we will have a small trade show from 11 am to 2 pm with lunch being served at 12 noon. Plan to come and cele-brate with us. Door prizes will be awarded. ********** As always, we are ready to assist you with all of your marketing or transportation needs. We are avail-able to haul cattle both to and from the market at times that are convenient for you. We receive cattle each Tuesday night until 9:00 pm and Thursdays before a special sale until 8:00 pm. We can accept cattle anytime that is conven-ient for you. We are set up to feed and water cattle prior to the sale. There is no charge for this service. If you pur-chase cattle, we are able to work and/or deliver your cattle for you.
